Top 10 Mistakes Managers Make Managing People Avoid the Top 10 Mistakes Managers Make
Susan M. Heathfield
Many managers lack fundamental training in managing people. But, even more importantly, managers lack the values, sensitivity, and awareness needed to interact effectively all day long with people. Skills and techniques are easier to teach, but values, beliefs, and attitudes are much harder to teach - and harder for managers to learn. Yet, these are the underlying issues that will most make managers successful - or not. GO TO FULL ARTICLE POSTED 2014-06-11

Performance Appraisals Don't Improve Performance
Ray Williams
The traditional performance appraisal as practiced in the majority of organizations today is fundamentally flawed and incongruent with our values-based, vision-driven and collaborative work environments. There is compelling new research that shows performance reviews actually don’t improve performance, and may actually cause a decline in performance.
Clearly, the annual performance review was designed for a work environment where control of individual employee performance was a key function. In today’s collaborative environment, that perspective no longer makes sense. Some key questions that need to be answered are: Why are we perpetuating a system that research (including recent brain research) shows is not only ineffective, but counterproductive; and what are better processes to replace the performance review? Organizational Culture In The Digital Age
Shama Hyder, Contributor
When we think of marketing and social media in organizations it’s often with the focus being on the external environment and our external customers. This is not wrong by any means, but I think we can too often take for granted another key stakeholder we are communicating to, our internal customers, our employees. Our employees make up who we are as an organization and they have a great impact on our culture. The questions we have to constantly ask as leaders are “What experience am I creating for them?” And, “Is it aligned with the culture I want in the organization?” Social Media and how we use it as an organization can have a great impact in creating experiences that impact the culture. The Myth Of The Bell Curve: Look For The Hyper-Performers
By Josh Bersin
There is a long standing belief in business that people performance follows the Bell Curve (also called the Normal Distribution). This belief has been embedded in many business practices: performance appraisals, compensation models, and even how we get graded in school.

Microsoft, GE, and the futility of ranking employees
By Elizabeth G. Olson
The "rank and yank" system that Jack Welch popularized results in workers being pitted against their peers to avoid being labeled as losers. That's not the kind of approach that encourages teamwork. FORTUNE -- In his heyday, General Electric CEO Jack Welch was such a renowned manager that other corporate giants like Microsoft, Ford, and Conoco rushed to mimic his policies, includingSurvivor-esque evaluations that guaranteed some workers would be graded as failures. Our Ten 2014 Predictions for HR, Learning, Talent and HR Technology
By Josh Bersin
2014 will be an exciting and challenging year for HR, learning, and talent professionals.
In summary, this is a year businesses will find it increasingly difficult to attract, retain, and develop their people. Passion, engagement, development, and innovation are key. Global economic growth will create a new level of competition for people. HR organizations will shift their focus from cost reduction to retention and engagement. Technology will continue to make the world a smaller place, forcing companies to improve their employment brand in every possible way. GO TO LINKED IN ARTICLE

7 Hottest Trends In HR Technology
By Meghan M. Biro
Here’s My Take On The Top 7 Trends in HR Technology:
1) There Will Be A Move From Quantity To Quality. We’ve been deluged with technological advances, and many Leaders and HR departments have embraced some, or if very innovative, many of them. Only to later find out (after spending money and resources) that some are a terrible match for their organizations. I see much more selectivity in the year ahead. Instead of asking, “Is this amazing technology?”, the question will become, “Is this technology a good match for us?” GO TO FORBES ARTICLE

Singapore firm to spend P7-B for Clark project ABS-CBNnews.com
Posted at 05/12/2014
MANILA, Philippines – Singapore-based developer Capilion Corp. has committed an estimated P7 billion for the development of a mixed-use project inside the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga. Capilion and Clark Development Corp. recently signed a long-term lease agreement to develop a facility that will house business process outsourcing (BPO), residential, commercial, and retail in a 3-hectare property inside Clark. CDC president Arthur Tugade expects the project to generate thousands of employment opportunities in the area. The agreement also required to sign an anti-graft undertaking and exert effort to hire indigenous people (IP) and persons with disabilities (PWD's). "This will be the biggest contract to be signed by the new administration in terms of employment generation with a projection of 75,000 that can be accommodated within 7 years," Tugade said. ''Our target of breaking the 100,000 employee barrier by the year 2016 is projected to be broken by 2015 because of the entry of Capilion to Clark,” he added.

BCDA sets bid for Clark Green City
Posted 2014-05-23
MANILA, Philippines - Major property developers will likely start laying the groundwork for the Philippines’ first smart and totally environment-friendly metropolis next year, a government official said. State-run Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) will start bidding out this year a 1,300-hectare portion of the 36,000-hectare Clark Green City project in Pampanga, a government official said.
“We will parcelize the lot into six. We want different developers to come in,” BCDA president and chief executive officer Arnel Paciano Casanova said on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) welcome reception. Major listed property firms, which approached the BCDA for the 1,300-hectare portion of the urban project, will likely start construction of mixed-use developments as early as 2015 as bidding is seen to be conducted this year, Casanova said.
